What3shards is a series of two-dimensional stained-glass teacups suspended from well-used wooden spoons. Each cup is constructed from fragments of coloured and clear glass, assembled into familiar domestic silhouettes. Lead lines both divide and contain the surface, echoing mapping systems, borders, and the invisible structures through which we locate ourselves in the world. Each piece carries a What3Words reference identifying the geographical location from which the featured shard originates, anchoring fragment to place.
The worn wooden spoons, shaped and softened by repeated touch, stand in quiet contrast to the luminous fragility of the glass. Together they speak of labour and light, endurance and delicacy — of hands that stir, hold, and sustain.
The title plays on digital mapping while foregrounding the shard: a fragment that suggests breakage, recovery, and reassembly. By combining the language of stained glass with humble kitchen utensils, the work gently reframes the domestic as a site of reverence, inviting reflection on memory, place, and the small rituals that steady everyday life.
