The Fragile Histories series is part of a broader exploration of two-dimensional glass cups that reflect domestic ritual, memory, and the histories embedded in everyday objects. Mid-century pressed glass plates are repurposed and cut into teacup forms, their sparkling, patterned surfaces suspended from well-worn, humble wooden spoons.
The contrast between luminous, fragile glass and the tactile, unsung spoons evokes the tension between shine and labour, fragility and resilience. Through recycling and material transformation, the series celebrates the poetic potential of familiar domestic objects, honouring the continuity, creativity, and quiet histories embedded within families, communities, and everyday life.
At its heart, the work honours the skill and resourcefulness of generations of Welsh women. By reinterpreting quilt patterns in glass, I illuminate the resilience and cultural memory embedded in domestic ritual, recognising everyday craft as a site of endurance, identity and pride.
