Quote of the month:

“I`ve decided to have one of your paintings instead of a new football strip!”
- Archie Tulloch, aged 8, Pontypool
Thanks to Archie for making my day!

Economy of Scale

My new conceptual piece will be installed in Tenby Museum this week. Entitled "Economy of Scale", the piece is inspired by the life of Robert Recorde, a mathematician who was born in Tenby in 1510. Recorde was the first mathematician to write mathematical treatises in English, he invented the "equals" sign, he was a medical doctor, he was Controller of the Bristol Mint under Queen Mary, and died in debtors prison in London in 1558.

The piece is made from recycled wine bottles from Tenby, an antique apothecary balance, silk thread and silver beads and will be on exhibition in the museum until September 5th.

My thanks to Tenby Museum for the inspiration and access to their collection, the British Museum for access to their coin collection, Platagenet Restaurant, Tenby, for the (empty) wine bottles, and Tina Norris for photographing the piece.

Painting Courses

In response to many requests to run painting courses, I am setting up a programme of one day and weekend courses here in Pembrokeshire. Please do get in touch if you would like to come on a course.

One day courses this summer will be held at Bryn Morris Studio near Maenclochog, which is the studio of artist, Elizabeth Haines. Bryn Morris is a large and light studio space, and is situated in the heart of the Preseli Hills.

Residential courses will be held at Swmbarch House, at Letterston, near Fishguard which is the gorgeous home and studio of artist, Maggie Brown, who runs her own courses full-time. Maggie`s husband, Andrew, is our chef for the courses, and accommodation is in beautiful twin en-suite rooms. Single occupancy can also be catered for.
